The Nominating Committee welcomes all applicants. We encourage CFPC members to apply if they are interested in a leadership position or to spur a colleague to apply.
One nominee or multiple nominees, as applicable, will be shared with members. Members will then elect one Director-at-Large.
The CFPC’s Board of Directors is a multi-talented group of individuals who are expected to collectively possess the following skills and proficiencies:
- Knowledge of the CFPC
- Experience with boards and governance
- Financial acumen
- Experience in strategic planning
- Knowledge in risk management
- Understanding of legal matters
- Knowledge of not-for-profit organizations
- Familiarity with systems thinking
- Experience in government relations
- Experience in patient and health care advocacy
- Aptitude for stakeholder engagement
- Comprehension of ethics and conflict of interest
- Possession of political acumen and understanding of public affairs
- Experience in communications
- Hold a Certificate(s) of Added Competence and have a focused practice
- Are community-based
- Are Indigenous
- Practice in Atlantic Canada or the Territories
- Are in a rural area
- Are a visible minority

What are the nomination and election processes, as outlined in the CFPC Bylaws?
- Review the CFPC Board Director Code of Conduct. You will be asked to confirm that if elected, you will sign and adhere to this.
- Review the CFPC Conflict of Interest Policy: Disclosure of potential, perceived, or real Conflicts of Interest among CFPC Members involved in (or wishing to be involved in) College leadership activities. You will be asked to complete the disclosure form as part of the application.

- Submit your resumé to Sarah Scott, Director of Governance and Strategic Planning, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Ask two individuals who know you well and who are CFPC members to act as your references. The most useful submission is a personal letter that relates to the questions in the Board Director application. Please ask for the letters be to be submitted to Sarah Scott, Director of Governance and Strategic Planning, at email@example.com before the March 31st deadline.
The Nominating Committee will make a recommendation to the Board. The Board will confirm the nominees.
Applicants will be informed by July 1st of whether they are being nominated for member consideration in the 2020 election.
It’s important to note this rigorous process is meant to assist the Nominating Committee in getting to know those who are interested in Board positions and enable the committee to develop the best list of nominees possible.
Nominees will be asked to provide the following items by mid-August, to be shared with CFPC members on the CFPC’s website:
A written summary (up to 1,000 words) describing yourself to members
A video introduction presenting yourself to members (up to two minutes, recorded by the CFPC)
A picture of yourself

That the Nominating Committee will recommend one nominee, or multiple nominees, as applicable, for one three-year term Director-at-Large position. The Board will approve the nominee(s) to be shared with members for election. If there is more than one nominee, the nominee receiving the most votes will be elected.

The current members of the Board of Directors are collectively strong in addressing the required skills-matrix. They offer diversity in terms of gender, geography, community of practice, and career cycle. The anticipated gap areas are highlighted in the 2020 Call for Interest.
At the time of the 2020 Annual Meeting of Members (AMM):
The four Directors holding Officer positions will all complete their one-year term.
Our Past–President, Dr. Paul Sawchuk, will step down.
Our current President, Dr. Shirley Schipper, will be acclaimed as a Director holding the office of Past–President.
Our current President–Elect, Dr. Catherine Cervin, will be acclaimed as a Director holding the office of President.
Members will be asked to elect our current Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Brady Bouchard, as a Director holding the office of President–Elect.
Members will be asked to elect our current Director-at-Large, Dr. Christie Newton, as a Director holding the office of Secretary-Treasurer.
Among the seven Directors-at-Large, two changes will occur.
Dr. Newton’s nomination as Secretary-Treasurer, creates a vacancy.
Members will be asked to elect Dr. Jean-Pierre Arseneau as a Director-at-Large for a renewed term (from the 2020 AMM to the 2023 AMM).
